Construction work can resume in Michigan May 7, per Whitmer spokesperson

After coming to a standstill since March 24 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the state’s non-essential commercial and residential construction will be allowed to start again in Michigan on May 7, 2020.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer says that this is one of the many phases of reengaging the economy, and this sector is at a lower risk of spreading COVID-19 so they are one of the first sectors to reopen.

The current stay-at-home order goes through May 15th, which is expected to be lifted gradually as things begin reopening in Michigan over time. New daily cases and deaths are showing a decline in some areas of the state, but the governor warns that reopening too many sectors too soon might bring on a second wave of the virus. Gov. Whitmer has said that the state needs to watch those numbers and remain nimble enough to go backward in case the numbers spike again.
