Inmate Attacks Corrections Officers

Two corrections officers were injured Monday morning at the Charles Egeler Reception and Guidance Center in Jackson. A prisoner at the center punched one of the officers. Another officer who was trying to break up the fight was also injured. The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. Monday when an officer addressing some bad behavior by an inmate was punched in the jaw. The prisoner then pushed an officer into a filing cabinet, that’s when other officers stepped in to restrain the prisoner. After the incident, the officers were taken to the hospital and the inmate was evaluated by a nurse before being transferred to another facility. Michigan Department of Corrections spokesman Chris Gautz said its fairly rare for an officer to be sent to the hospital.
