At the Jackson YMCA’s annual celebration luncheon to honor donors and volunteers, it was announced that the annual Strong Kids Strong Community (SKSC) Campaign surpassed their $150,000 goal, raising $161,393. The program ensures no one is denied the opportunity to participate due to an inability to pay for the Y’s youth programs, summer camps, or attend after-school care.

In a press release, YMCA CEO Shawna Tello said, “The community continues to wrap their arms around the mission of the Y and our programs. We’ve been in a unique situation this year, because we have two campaigns running at the same time. While we are committed to our Capital Campaign to raise funds for a new facility, we have been equally focused on our Strong Kids Strong Communities Campaign. Many kids and families depend on the Y, and we are grateful so many businesses and individuals continue to offer their support.”

In November 2017, the Jackson YMCA launched a $25 million Capital Campaign to build a new facility in downtown Jackson. Just eight months after the launch, the Y is more than halfway toward that goal and hoping to conclude the campaign before the end of 2018.

The annual donor and volunteer celebration highlighted the Y’s growth over the past year, and honored long-time board member Sean Kennedy of Polly’s Country Market with the Volunteer of the Year award for his dedication and service to the Y. Kennedy has been a volunteer for over ten years, and sits on the board’s Finance Committee.
