Structure Fire on Clinton Street in Jackson Hospitalizes Two, Other Individual Taken Into Custody

Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — On January 21 at approximately 10:00 p.m., the Jackson Fire Department (JFD), along with assisting agencies, responded to a structure fire at the 300 block of Clinton Street.

Upon arrival, fire crews encountered heavy smoke and fire conditions on the first and second floors of the residence, with occupants reported inside.

Firefighters conducted a coordinated rescue and fire attack, successfully removing two victims from dangerous conditions, including the rescue of one individual from the roof of the structure.

Both victims received emergency medical care on scene from Jackson County Ambulance and were transported to Henry Ford Hospital.

One victim was later transferred to the University of Michigan Burn Unit, while the second victim was treated and released. A third occupant of the residence was taken into custody at the scene by the Jackson Police Department (JPD).

According to the JPD’s shift report for January 21, a 43-year-old male was arrested for alleged 1st degree arson and alleged assault with intent to murder in relation to the fire.

Searches of the residence confirmed no additional occupants inside. The fire was brought under control, and crews cleared the scene at approximately 12:30 a.m. No firefighters were injured during the incident.

Other agencies at the scene included Summit Fire, Blackman Fire, Napoleon Fire, Grass Lake Fire, Spring Arbor Fire, Henrietta Fire, ASSIST, Jackson County Ambulance, and the Jackson Police Department.

The Michigan State Police have been requested to conduct the fire investigation.
