BLDPS Fire

Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — A structure fire that took place on Dettman Road on Sunday was said to have displaced three people, with its cause currently under investigation.

At approximately 11:04 a.m. on January 18, the Blackman-Leoni Department of Public Safety (DPS) responded to the reported structure fire.

Upon arrival, responding units observed heavy smoke and flames visible from the exterior of the single-story home.

Crews from multiple agencies responded to assist with fire suppression efforts, which officials say were significantly hindered by bitter weather conditions.

The interior of the residence became unsafe, and firefighters were unable to access areas of active fire.

An excavator from Lester Brothers was requested to assist with access and demolition operations after several hours on scene.

One firefighter from the Summit Township Fire Department was transported to Henry Ford Jackson Hospital for observation due to exhaustion.

The three adults who were living in the residence have been displaced and are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.

The cause of the fire remains undetermined and authorities say it is being treated as suspicious. Fire investigators from the DPS are conducting the investigation with assistance from the Michigan State Police.

Other agencies involved in the response include Jackson County Central Dispatch, the Jackson City Fire Department, Summit Township Fire Department, Grass Lake Fire Department, Napoleon Fire Department, Henrietta Fire Department, the Jackson County Disaster Assistance Response Team, Lester Brothers, and Jackson Community Ambulance.
