Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — A three-vehicle collision caused two fatalities on Wednesday morning in Liberty Township according to authorities with Michigan State Police (MSP). Photographs of the crash that were taken showed that there were multiple vehicles on fire in the aftermath.

MSP says that on Wednesday, October 1, at approximately 11:20 a.m., troopers from the Jackson Post responded to a three-vehicle crash on southbound US-127 (Meridian Rd) near Loomis Road.

Their preliminary investigation indicates that a 2022 Ford F-150 pickup, driven by a 46-year-old Grass Lake man, was traveling southbound on US-127, a two-lane roadway. The driver attempted to pass another southbound vehicle in a no-passing zone and struck a northbound 2007 Peterbilt dump truck being driven by a 25-year-old Jackson man.

The impact of the crash sheared off the pickup’s tire, causing the vehicle to continue southbound in the northbound lane, where it collided head-on with a 2001 Chevy Silverado pickup driven by a 59-year-old Cement City man. Both vehicles became engulfed in flames following the crash.

Both pickup drivers were pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the dump truck was uninjured and declined medical treatment.

At this time, it is unknown if alcohol or drugs were contributing factors. The crash remains under investigation. If you have any information to share with authorities regarding the crash, you can contact the MSP Jackson Post at 517-780-4580.

Both lanes in the area were shut down for hours as MSP Jackson Post troopers investigated the crash.
