A large brawl at the G. Robert Cotton Correctional Facility in Blackman Township left one inmate dead, Friday morning.
The fight happened at around 7:30AM in the meal line inside the level 4 housing unit, which is one of the prison’s highest security classifications.
Two inmates were sent to the hospital with stab wounds. One of them, 22 year-old Deandre Jackson, died at the hospital. Jackson was serving time for armed robbery.
The other inmate was treated and sent back to the prison.
Guards detained 13 prisoners involved in the melee.
Two staff members were treated for minor injuries.
