Jackson Mayor Derek Dobies said that the city did some cannabis housekeeping at the last city council meeting.

“Some additional language we needed to put into some of our ordinances effecting the medical marijuana shops. When I talked to the city manager, it looks like our application process will start in the next month, month and a half,” Dobies said. He mentions that they are working to respect the will of the voters while still managing the overall goal of improving the city. “We’re going cautiously forward.”

When asked about any big cannabis players eyeing a move into the city, Dobies said that pretty much everyone who enters the industry is a big player, “I think the way the state law is set up, it basically incentivize people with a lot of capital to come into the city.”
