Tomorrow is the May elections in Michigan, and there are a number of things on the ballots for voters to decide.

 

JACKSON PUBLIC SCHOOLS – BOND PROPOSAL

2.95 Mills for 30 Years

The focus is largely on security, with all the schools getting secure entry upgrades. A new Elementary building to replace the Cascades/Frost campus is also planned to be constructed. Other improvements include hallway remodels, facility modernization, and ADA compliance across all facilities.

NORTHWEST SCHOOLS – BOND PROPOSAL

1.9 Mills for 25 Years

The Northwest Community Schools bond will “add additional classrooms, parking lots, site work, addition of band/choir/theater classrooms, and improve athletic facilities. This would allow us to address the present needs and still keep Northwest Community Schools below four of the six surrounding school districts in mills levied.”

COLUMBIA SCHOOLS – OPERATING MILLAGE RENEWAL

6 year renewal of existing millage

The proposal will “provide funds for operating purposes; the estimate of the revenue the school district will collect if the millage is approved and 18 mills are levied in 2019 is approximately $4,499,712 (this is a renewal of millage that will expire with the 2018 tax levy)”

EAST JACKSON SCHOOLS – OPERATING MILLAGE RENEWAL

5 year renewal of existing millage

The proposal will “provide funds for operating purposes; the estimate of the revenue the school district will collect if the millage is approved and 18 mills are levied in 2019 is approximately $1,663,874”

WESTERN SCHOOL DISTRICT – SINKING FUND MILLAGE

1 mill for 5 years

The proposal will “create a sinking fund for the purchase of real estate for sites for, and the construction or repair of, school buildings, for school security improvements, for the acquisition or upgrading of technology and all other purposes authorized by law; the estimate of the revenue the school district will collect if the millage is approved and
levied in 2018 is approximately $352,000.”

HANOVER TOWNSHIP – FIRE DEPARTMENT MILLAGE

1.5 mills for 10 years

The proposal is designed for “continued operations and maintenance, including the purchase of new fire  extinguishing apparatus, equipment and the housing of such equipment, which, if levied in its entirety, would raise an estimated $198,272.00 in the first year the millage is levied.”

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP – FIRE DEPARTMENT MILLAGE

1.5 mills for 5 years

The funding is “for equipment replacement and building maintenance & improvements. If approved, the
estimated revenue that will be collected in the first year will be approximately $171,000.”

SPRINGPORT TOWNSHIP – RESCUE/FIRE MILLAGE 

1.5 mills for 4 years

The millage is designed to provide funding for fire and rescue operations; and is scheduled to generate $95,000.

PULASKI TOWNSHIP – NEW FIRE MILLAGE & EXISTING FIRE MILLAGE RENEWAL

The new millage is .5 mills for 20 years. The existing millage is .5 mills. 

The existing millage is to find fire operations, while the proposed new millage will providing funding for to finance new equipment and apparatus.
