Shirkey Leading the Charge for Medicaid Workforce Engagement Requirements

State Senator Mike Shirkey is leading the charge for medicaid workforce engagement requirements. The bill, which has passed the Senate and has been referred to the House Appropriations Committee, amends Public Act 280 of 1939, commonly known as the “Social Welfare Act”. Written in the bill, it’s purpose is to “assist, encourage, and prepare an able-bodied adult for a life of self-sufficiency and independence from government interference.”

The bill defines able-bodied adults as “an individual at least 19 to 64 years of age who is not pregnant and who does not have a disability that makes him or her eligible for medical assistance under this act.”
