Hillsdale, Mich. (WKHM) — The City of Hillsdale will receive a 2027 fiscal year Transportation Economic Development Fund (TEDF) Category F grant of up to $375,000 for resurfacing work on Industrial Drive from Beck Road to Mechanic Street.
Category F grants are competitive grants intended to preserve and / or expand all-season road networks within the urban areas of rural counties.
Industrial Drive is an all-season route in the Hillsdale Manufacturing and Technology Park and is used to transport automotive parts, precision tools, electrical accessories, large-scale lighting systems, and metal and plastic components.
Potential projects on Industrial Drive helped by the grant include crushing, shaping and repaving the road surface and replacing curbs and gutters.
The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) says this project will improve the road condition and allow commercial traffic to continue using the roadway safely.
In a statement, Michigan State Senator Joe Bellino (R – Monroe) applauded the city and their efforts to obtain the grant.
“This transportation economic development grant will help the city attract new investment and jobs to the community and enhance the Hillsdale Manufacturing and Technology Park,” said Bellino. “In addition to supporting economic growth, fixing our roads improves the safety of families and workers who use our roads on a daily basis.”
The grant, which covers 58% of the project’s cost up to $375,000, is being met with $269,000 of matching funds from the City of Hillsdale. The total cost of the project is $644,000.
