Anthony Stewart has been sworn in as Undersheriff

Jackson County — The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office yesterday on social media announced that Anthony Stewart has been sworn in and promoted to Undersheriff. Sheriff Gary Schuette highlighted Stewart’s long career in law enforcement, including his time with the Michigan Department of Corrections where he served more than 30 years and rose to senior leadership roles.

In his previous role as Captain at the Jackson County Jail, Stewart was involved in programs such as the federal 287(g) agreement with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement that assists with warrant servicing and custody of detainees.

The promotion takes effect immediately and places Stewart as second-in-command within the sheriff’s office, responsible for daily operations and oversight of both jail and patrol functions. The sheriff’s office says the move reflects its ongoing commitment to strong leadership and community safety.
