Nationally Awarded Local HBA to Take Part in BuildersCare Project And Career Day Event

Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — The Home Builders Association of Jackson, Hillsdale & Lenawee has been recognized by the National Association of Home Builders with multiple Grand Awards, the highest level of recognition in NAHB’s membership performance awards.

The Grand Awards honor local and state HBA’s that demonstrate achievement in key membership categories, including Numerical Growth and Percentage Growth.

Executive Director Pat O’Dowd told WKHM that it was exciting to receive the awards after a stellar 2025.

O’Dowd said that this is also a testament to the members that make up the HBA and their commitment to the Jackson area.

The National Association of Home Builders represents more than 140,000 members nationwide and is made up of over 600 local and state home builders associations, making these awards highly competitive and nationally significant.

The HBA says they look to continue that momentum through a series of hands-on workforce and community initiatives, including BuildersCare May 1-3.

Beginning May 1, volunteers with the HBA will be helping out homeowners on North Pleasant Street as part of the Community Curb Appeal Project with the Jackson Area Association of Realtors.

O’Dowd made sure to mention one home in particular as belonging to a committed neighbor and community member.

He said that he is excited to see the results, and that it is always good to see neighborhoods come together.

The HBA will also host its Build Your Future Career Day on May 1 at the Jackson Area Career Center from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to connect students with local trade professionals and career opportunities.

This event was made possible by a grant from the National Housing Endowment, and aims to help introduce students to trade work.

O’Dowd explained that the average age of contractors within the state is somewhere in the mid-50’s, highlighting the need for new people to begin to fill those roles in the workforce.

A second Career Day event will take place in Lenawee County at the LISD TECH Center on May 7.
