City of Jackson to Offer Residents Early Sign-Up for Free Lead Service Line Replacement

Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — The City of Jackson is encouraging residents to sign up early for the replacement of private lead water service lines.

The city is currently offering free replacement of private lead service lines for eligible homes located within the City of Jackson. This work is part of a long-term initiative to remove older lead pipes and continue improving the city’s water system.

To participate, property owners must complete the Agreement and Grant of Temporary License for Private Lead Water Service Line Replacement. This agreement allows city staff to inspect the service line on private property and schedule replacement if the pipe is confirmed to be lead.

Once the agreement is submitted, residents will be contacted by city staff to schedule a verification visit.

City officials say there is no cost to the homeowner, and no special assessments are involved.

Residents are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible, as requests are processed on a first-come, first-served basis, allowing homes that register early to be scheduled sooner for inspection and replacement.

Residents interested in signing up or learning more about the program can visit the city’s website to complete the agreement form at: http://www.cityofjackson.org/lead.
