Judge Thomas Wilson is retiring at the end of the month.

JACKSON — After nearly 20 years on the bench, Jackson County Circuit Judge Thomas Wilson is retiring at the end of the month.

His retirement takes effect Friday, February 27. The announcement comes about five months after the Michigan Judicial Tenure Commission filed a public complaint alleging misconduct. The complaint includes accusations of public intoxication, sexual harassment of another judge, failing to disclose business relationships with attorneys appearing before him, and allowing cases to sit without action for extended periods. The matter remains listed as pending.

Wilson denied some allegations, acknowledged others, and said he stopped heavy drinking several years ago. He was first elected in 2006 and most recently won reelection in 2024.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer will appoint someone to complete the remainder of his term, which runs through 2030. In the meantime, visiting judges are handling cases in Jackson County.
