Accelerate Jackson to Assume Day-to-Day Operations for Jackson County Land Bank

Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — Accelerate Jackson County (AJC) and the Jackson County Land Bank Authority have announced a new partnership that hopes to strengthen community development efforts across Jackson County.

Under a recently executed agreement, AJC will assume responsibility for managing the day-to-day operations of the Jackson County Land Bank Authority, bringing additional organizational capacity, strategic leadership, and economic development expertise to support the Land Bank’s mission.

Officials say this partnership reflects a growing recognition that community development, housing, neighborhood revitalization, and economic development are closely connected.

AJC and the Jackson County Land Bank Authority plan to pursue opportunities that improve property conditions, encourage private investment, expand housing options, and enhance the quality of life for residents throughout the county.

Through this partnership, the Land Bank will become a more active tool for returning underutilized properties to productive use and advancing community redevelopment goals.

“The future of Jackson County depends on strong collaboration among organizations committed to building thriving communities,” said Keith Gillenwater, President and CEO of AJC. “This partnership creates an opportunity to closely connect efforts Accelerate Jackson County already leads such as the Jackson County Housing Collaborative and also aligns with the new Drive Jackson initiative. Together, we can help transform underutilized properties into assets that contribute to stronger neighborhoods and increased investment across our county.”

The Jackson County Land Bank Authority was established to acquire, manage, redevelop, and return properties to productive use while supporting local governments, residents, and community stakeholders in their efforts to improve neighborhoods and encourage reinvestment.

Through this partnership, AJC will provide operational management, strategic planning support, project coordination, and community engagement services to advance those objectives.

“The Jackson County Land Bank Authority has always been focused on creating opportunities for redevelopment to strengthen our communities,” said Karen Coffman, Chair of the Jackson County Land Bank and County Treasurer. “Partnering with Accelerate Jackson County gives us access to additional expertise, resources, and strategic capacity that will help us further our mission and create lasting benefits for residents, neighborhoods, and local communities throughout Jackson County.”
