Brooklyn, MI (WKHM) — The Village of Brooklyn is inviting the community to the dedication of a new historical marker at Brooklyn Village Hall.
The dedication event is happening at 5:30 p.m. next Tuesday (June 16). The new State of Michigan Historical Marker is replacing a previous marker in the Town Square that was taken out by a semi-truck crash in April 2025.
The marker highlights Brooklyn’s settlement in 1832 when it was first named Swainsville after founder Calvin Swain.
The dedication will be attended by local officials and feature remarks from Larry Wagenaar, Executive Director and CEO of the Historical Society of Michigan.
The new marker is placed outside the front entrance of Village Hall instead of the Town Square so it can be safely viewed from the sidewalk.
Village Hall is located at 121 N. Main St. Brooklyn, MI 49230.
