On her latest appearance on AM Jackson, State Representative Sarah Lightner spoke about some of the new changes in state government now that it’s 2026, including the heightened flat tax for gas in the state, offset somewhat by getting rid of the sales tax.
There has also been a rise in the minimum wage, although Rep. Lightner says she has yet to hear a whole lot from business owners about the change so far.
She also expressed the opinion that with funding for the Hayes Hotel in limbo, along with its aging infrastructure, she is of the mind that at some point tearing the building down has to become an option.
