Last Minute Deal in Lansing Mandates Clerks Regularly Delete Dead Voters from Rolls and The City of Jackson Installs New Absentee Ballot Drop Box

The deceased will be removed from voter rolls monthly and with greater regularity as elections approach according to the House Elections and Ethics Committee Chair Ann Bollin.  Bollin says this deal also tightened rules for officials collecting ballots from drop boxes, allows clerks to pre-process absentee ballots in large municipalities two days early to control a possible overload of mail and allows election challengers and inspectors to be present for pre-processing.

In related news the City of Jackson announced via press release that they have installed a new absentee ballot drop box on W. Michigan Avenue in front of City Hall.

The Michigan Secretary of State provided funding for the project.  The drop box will be open once the ballots have been mailed and will remain open until 8pm on election nights.

The box is meant for completed ballots only and all other City of Jackson paperwork including absentee ballot applications, should be submitted to the standard drop box outside of City Hall.
