Jackson area teacher faces minimum of 10 years

A former St John Catholic School music teacher will serve at least 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to four counts of criminal sexual conduct.

Joseph Comperchio taught drama and music at the St John Catholic School during the 1970s.

Comperchio was first charged in September of 2020 for the sexual abuse of two children.  Then a month later, he faced five additional counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct.

Comperchio pleaded guilty before Jackson County Circuit Court Judge Susan B. Jordan to three counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct.

His admission will result in a minimum of ten years and a maximum of 20.

Comperchio’s sentencing is scheduled for August 4 at 10 AM.
