Friday, the State Land Bank Authority and MI Department of Treasury announced that a total of $800,000 in statewide blight elimination grants will be awarded to six cities across the state, with $125,000 of that coming to Jackson.

The five other communities receiving grant money are Albion, Bessemer, Lapeer, Saginaw and St. Johns.

The State Land Bank Authority has eliminated 3,362 blighted structures since 2010, as well as returning 2,480 properties to new productive use.
