Trial date set for alleged governor kidnap plotters

A federal judge has set March 23 as the trial date for six men charged with plotting to kidnap Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer.

The six men were arrested back in October after an extensive FBI investigation revealed that they were actively plotting to kidnap the governor from her vacation home in northern Michigan.

In December, a grand jury indicted the six on a conspiracy charge that carries a maximum penalty of life in prison.

Attorneys for the men claim that their clients were all talk and did not intend on going through with the plot.

Eight other men who are said to be members or associates of the militia are charged in state court on counts including providing material support for terrorist acts.
