Delaware man who plotted to kidnap Gov Whitmer requests release

Barry Croft Jr., the Delaware man charged with conspiring to kidnap Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, is requesting to be released from incarceration as he awaits his hearing.

Federal prosecutors say that it would be unreasonable to release him. Court filings describe Croft as a “violent extremist” and one of the ringleaders of the plot.

Croft, along with 12 Michigan men, were arrested in October.

Croft, who is currently lodged in a Philadelphia federal prison, consented to having his case transferred from Delaware to Michigan, but has yet to be moved to Michigan due to delays in prisoner transfers.

Croft’s attorney calls the delay unreasonable and claims that it hinders Croft’s ability to build a defense.
