Grand Rapids Coca-Cola plant evacuated, sulfuric acid spill

A sulfuric acid spill at the Grand Rapids’ Coca-Cola plant lead to the emergency evacuation of all workers, Saturday.

Grand Rapids emergency crews responded to the plant at around 11AM, Saturday morning, after sulfuric acid spilled out of an offloaded tank. The spill was contained by a secondary containment system.

Sulfuric acid is a respiratory irritant, according to fire officials.

The spill remains under investigation.
