Cascades Humane Society has opened their doors to the public by appointment effective June 1, 2020. In an effort to protect their staff, volunteers and the Jackson Community from the spread of the coronavirus, COVID-19, they ask all patrons to follow CDC guidelines by social distancing, wearing masks or coverings, handwashing and staying home if you are sick or have had contact with anyone who has been sick. CHS strongly encourages adopters to have pets in mind prior to arrival to minimize the time spent in the facility.

“Caring for our animals is always our top priority, and so we are excited to open our doors and be able to help them find their forever homes. We have the most amazing team of staff and volunteers who we will continue to support with proper safety precautions and protective equipment.” explains Executive Director Heather Leszczynski.

As a non-profit that does not receive funds from national or state humane societies, or money from the government (including the recent Jackson millage), CHS relies on the generosity of the community to remain functioning. “We are so thankful for the support of our community over the past several weeks. They truly are our heroes.”

In addition to re-opening, CHS now offers the community even more services, adding to their low-cost Spay and Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP). The services are available during scheduled spay or neuter surgeries, and include vaccines, heartworm testing for dogs, FIV and FeLV testing for cats, and dentals.

“This is a very exciting addition to our SNAP program. We want to be sure that every animal in our community is able to receive the basic care they deserve. This continues to be an uncertain time for many, and we want to do as much as we can to help serve the families who need us.” says Leszczynski.

In addition to the SNAP program, CHS has a Pet Food Pantry that helps feed the pets of those families going through financial hardship. CHS accepts any cat or dog food as long as it is in its original packaging for this program. Donors can drop off the food by the pole barn located behind their facility. Pet Food Pantry is the first Saturday of the month from 12pm to 2pm.
