January 21, 2020 — The Jackson YMCA announced today that Consumers Energy will offer a matching grant of $3,000,000 to carry their Capital Campaign to the finish line, in hopes that it will spark additional fundraising to help the YMCA reach its goal of building a new facility in downtown Jackson.

Jackson YMCA Ceo Shawna Tello says, “We are committed to youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.” According to Consumers Energy CEO Patti Poppe, the new Y is part of their clean energy transition. They’re dedicating their resources to make sure the new facility has the best energy-efficiency technologies to aid in eliminating energy waste.

Scott McIntosh of Consumers Energy says the dream of a new Y facility in downtown Jackson is no longer a question of if, but a question of when.
