Crime Lab Analyzing Blood From Hit and Run Crash

Police investigating the fatal hit-and-run of 64-year-old Steven Georgopoulos say they are waiting for blood test results from the Michigan State Police crime lab before submitting a report to prosecutors for review. The body of Georgopoulos was discovered near N. Elm Street south of I-94 early on the morning of April 10th. Later that day, an officer responding to an unrelated call in the 500 block of S. Rosewood Avenue in Leoni Township noticed a Dodge van with damage consistent with an accident. Parts missing on the vehicle matched debris found at the crash scene. The 35-year-old Leoni Township woman who owned the vehicle was questioned by police and the vehicle was impounded. The analysis of blood samples at the crime lab typically takes several weeks.
