PFAS Report Surfaces Six Years After Completion By DEQ

Phosphoribosylformylglycinamidine Synthase, more commonly known as PFAS are a dangerous family of chemicals that have been in the discussion of water quality recently.

Over a dozen Michigan communities have elevated levels of PFAS, according to a report from 2012 that was just recently released from Michigan’s Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). Why the delay?

PFAS, which can cause cancers, thyroid disorders, and other serious health problems have prompted Lisa Wozniak, the Executive Director of the Michigan League of Conservation Voters, to ask the same question. She’s also urging Michigan Lawmakers to get back to Lansing and address the issue. Wozniak explains, “Even at low levels, PFAS is linked to cancer, auto immune diseases, diabetes, thyroid disorders, and a host of other severe health problems.”

Stay tuned to WKHM, as we’ll be speaking to Wozniak on Monday to discuss the water quality issues.
