UW Cardboard Boat Race

September 8, 2017 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

What Floats Your Cardboard Boat Race

From Batman to Betty Boop, this year’s United Way kickoff event promises a fleet of cardboard boats based on the theme of comic books and strips. Now in its sixth year, the “What Floats Your Cardboard Boat” Race features boats made of cardboard that compete in heats, with winners of each heat taking part in a final race. The event has become a community-wide celebration of Jackson County residents’ compassion, generosity and sense of fun.

Now is the time to form a cardboard boat team, enter the race and start building a boat, said Toll. Up to 20 teams can enter. Awards go to first- and second-place finishers, plus Judges’ Choice, People’s Choice, Best Representation of Theme, and Most Spectacular Sinking.

Entry deadline is June 20. Cost to enter is $200. New this year is a requirement that every boat has at least two paddlers. Text FLOAT to 30306 to register; that text number will also be available during the event to vote for People’s Choice. For complete rules or to complete an entry, contact Stephanie Schiro at (517) 796-5120 or
