Tuesday is Primary Election Day, with polls open from 7:00am to 8:00pm. Stay tuned to WKHM on election night for updates.

WKHM’s Mike Reed reminds you to bring your ID. You can still vote if you forget it, you just have to sign an affidavit.

Capital Correspondent Tim Skubick reminds everyone that the primary elections are straight ticket. This means you must vote for the same party for each office. As Skubick explains, “you cannot cross over and vote, for example, a Republican candidate for Governor and a Democratic candidate for US Senate.” If you do, you votes will not be counted.

On the ballots, Western Public School voters have a sinking fund on the ballot. Superintendent Mike Smajda takes a page from Dave Ramsey to explain what a sinking fund is. “It’s a specific amount of money, for a specific amount of time, for a specific purpose.” Smajda said. The fund will address things like security, physical and technological infrastructure needs, and more over the next five years.

Northwest Public Schools have a 24.9 mill bond proposal on the ballot as well. “Security upgrades, site upgrades such as parking lots and lighting.” Superintendent Geoff Bontrager said. Bontrager said that this is really community-based as well as student-based, and he is excited for the possibilities.

Democratic Gubernatorial frontrunner Gretchen Whitmer made nearly 3 dozen stops through the weekend. She told WKHM, “This is not just another election.” Whitmer said. She lists education, continuing skill building, roads, and health as priorities. She said that her campaign is focused on Michigan, Michiganders, and Michigan solutions.

Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley, running for Governor on the Republican side joined WKHM last week to talk about what current Governor Snyder has done for his campaign. “He’s about the work. Go out there, get the work done, make things happen. That’s one of the secrets to our success.” Calley said. “He’s going to do what he thinks is best for the State of Michigan.”
