Jackson Police Department Names 2017 Officer of the Year

On May 11, the Jackson Police Department held their annual awards ceremony to recognize exemplary performance and commitment to serving the citizen of Jackson.

An officer with JPD since 2015, Officer Andrew Mosier was recognized as Officer of the Year. He was touted for his leadership abilities and his tenacious approach to policing. Officer Mosier also serves on the Honor Guard and Special Response Team.

Reserve Officer Adam Garcia was recognized as the Reserve Officer of the Year. He was sworn in as a reserve in 2003, and this is the second time he’s won this award. He has committed numerous hours of volunteer work and has proven to be a valuable asset to the Jackson community.

Sporting a cheerful attitude and a serving as a positive reflection of the department, Evidence Management Assistant Katelyn Gaston was named Civilian Employee of the Year. She is noted for having a hard-working spirit and a willingness to serve the department.

Mayor Derek Dobies was in attendance with 6th Ward Councilwoman Colleen Sullivan. He spoke to WKHM about this event, “”Our Jackson police officers put their lives on the line every day working to make a safer, more secure city. Councilwoman Sullivan and I were proud to attend the awards reception, hear their harrowing stories, and honor the sacrifice, courage, and commitment they make on behalf of the citizens they serve.””
