ON Saturday, October 28th law-enforcement and health locations nationwide held a National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day offering citizens an opportunity to dispose of any old, unused, or expired prescription medications. All 30 Michigan State Police posts participated and in total collected 802 lbs. of prescription drugs. The Jackson posts share of that total was 60 lbs.
An opportunity like National Drug Take-Back Day is important because studies have shown that most often when prescription drugs are abused they are obtained from family and friends. Other ways of disposing of prescription medicines like flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash have been shown to pose health and safety risks.
If you or someone you know missed out on Take-Back Day, you can anonymously turn in your unused or unwanted prescription medications at any MSP post Monday thru Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm excluding holidays.
